I’m a native to Virginia. I grew up in Springfield, went to college at Virginia Tech, and graduated from law school in Virginia Beach. As I was studying for the North Carolina Bar Exam, my study breaks consisted of playing guitar and learning new covers. Having a family, we spent free weekends at local breweries. After listening to lots of live music during those brewery trips, I thought “I could probably do this.”
Music and performing was a part of my life long before I was a twenty-something law student. I got my first guitar when I was about ten-years-old. As soon as I learned what a C, G, and A minor chord were, I started writing my own songs. In middle school, I was part of choir and musical theater. Looking back, creative expression really helped me in those awkward, but formative years.
Now, more than a decade later, I’ve started to step back into that creative expression. When I finished the Bar Exam, I had a couple months before starting my full-time job to see what I could do with music. I went to work curating my setlist, contacting breweries and local establishments, and searching Facebook Marketplace for an amp and mic.
To my surprise, it worked. My first gig was at Preston’s Pub in Manassas, VA. Various breweries throughout the Hampton Roads area in Virginia also let me entertain their patrons for a night: Vibrant Shore Brewing, Big Ugly Brewing, Commonwealth Brew Co., O’Connor Brewing, and COVA Brewing . . . to name a few. Every single performance has been a blast and a blessing.
Thanks to traveling for my current job, I get to expand my reach. I’m now based in Charleston, SC and looking to surrounding areas for entertaining. What I really hope is that my story and my transparency will provide something positive to people out there. Inspiration, encouragement, happiness, or at the very least, entertainment.
